The world's urban population is expected to rise from today's nearly 53 percent to 67 percent. More than 90 percent of the urban growth is expected to be in less developed nations. At the same time the world is becoming smaller and smaller due the exponential growth in traveling and communication technologies. This also means cooperation between countries are now a manner of daily business and the idea of life on the move is obviously on demand.

The concept of the CAT IN A BOX presents the perception of the modern sea-vessels as floating villas and proposes a layout for a boutique hotel while suggesting alternatives for floating offices, events complexes and more.

WHAT
CTB is revolutionizing the traditional way of thinking about catamarn design. By embracing innovative concepts from the field of mechanical design and implementing them in the project the result is an ecological boutique apartments hotel on water. The concept dictates a different approach for the design which no longer considers the twin hulls and the superstructure as a rigid solid. Instead of inserting the functions of the GA into the volume created by the hulls design, the entire main deck is dedicated for humans while laying cushioned on top a shock
softening twin hulls which also contains the mechanical areas.
CTB is a green yacht which means she is designed to be efficient, recycle water, fit several purposes and at the end of her life cycle - be recyclable herself and leave minimum footprint behind. As can be seen from the different plans and sections the water from the sinks and shower are collected to the Gray Water Tank and are used for flushing the toilet, the lights are low energy consuming LEDs, solar panels collect energy during the day, the shock absorbing systems create electricity from the waves and the hull itself is made of recyclable Aluminum.
HOW
The floating villa concept allows the design to utilize the full beam possibilities and create a unified cabins and public areas deck while confining with ultimate separation the technical areas to the below twin hulls.
The twin hulls are the muscles and heart of this catamaran. No longer shared with cabins, the space is dedicated entirely for the systems, pipes and engine - But the most unique aspect of the hulls is their ability to absorb the waves impact on the vessel and smoothen the cruise.
WHO
CTB is a flexible vessel. The reales of the superstructure from the confinements of the twin hulls not only that the GA can be changed in order to serve a whole different function completely, but also the exterior is flexible as can be seen from the morphology study. CTB strive to adapt and fulfill all her owner's needs and desires.
WHY
The point of origin in designing the project rendered above all else the will to conserve and the wish to make use of the historic site for the benefit of the local population, via entertainment, culture and recreation as well as becoming a national and international tourist attraction. The project, in fact, aspires to redeem the port's past glory, by revitalizing the port for trade, tourism, industry and leisure. According to the jumping tower scheme, the complex frames the view without abstracting the view from the city, incorporating platforms out of thin air.
